During high school I had to sketch of art compositions from different movements for my art history class. I recognized this poster from the Art nouveau movement. Art nouveau is a moment that is based off architecture and designs that are typical curved. I think this poster work well with the idea behind it, “Sensual in Europe, Sensible in the United States.” The poster uses complementary colors such as, purple and yellow but saturated which gives it a more sensual feeling. Although this poster isn’t simple the word “Job” clearly stands out. If this poster was created today I think people would definitely think that it’s out dated. We don’t use saturated colors anymore and I think this is because it doesn’t draw anyone in. People like bright colors on a poster because it draws attentions. This poster will not attract people as much as it did when it was created in 1899.
