This is a photograph taken by Damon Winter of the  New York Times. It’s an image of a young boy climbing through a hole in the wall of a home supplies store in downtown Port Au Prince four days after the January 12th earthquake.  The lighting in this photo is what I noticed immediately.  Without the sun shining through, this picture actually might be very bland and dull, and simple as well.  The light to me is symbolic to the young boy who is on the search for food and goods to survive a tragedy.  It makes it seem like there is hope for him and there is something there that can help him.  I also find it effective the way the light almost shines towards the person looking at the picture and it leaves you wanting to know more.
